India: MCL, NCL, SECL announce non-coking coal auctions for over 3 mnt in late May'26

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) have announced large-scale e-auctions of non-coking coal in May 2026, together placing more than 3 million tonnes (mnt) across multiple grades and evacuation modes under the revised CIL e-auction framework.

MCL announces largest auction basket

MCL will conduct its coal auction on 30 May 2026, offering around 3.4 mnt through road and rail modes. The auction basket includes G7, G8, G11, G12, G13, and G14 grades, along with 150,000 tonnes (t) of washery rejects, catering to a broad range of industrial consumers.

The largest quantity on offer is 842,500 t from LBL Integrated OCP through both road and rail routes, followed by 618,750 t from Hingula OCP and 500,000 t from Basundhara West OCP, mainly through road mode.

Additionally, MCL is also offering 150,000 t of washery rejects from the IB Valley Coal Washery.

NCL offers over 80,000 t

NCL will conduct its coal e-auction on 29 May 2026, offering 83,000 t from Bina OC and Block-B mines through road and rail modes, catering to industrial consumers across multiple sectors.

Bina OC accounts for the largest share in the auction with 54,000 t of G9 coal, including 50,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t via the Bina Silo rail route. Block-B mine is offering 29,000 t, comprising 25,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t through the Block-B Silo rail route.

SECL to auction G9, G11 and G12 coal

SECL will conduct its coal auction on 29 May 2026, offering around 104,000 t through road and rail modes. The auction basket includes G9, G11 and G12 grade coal from Jampali OC and Jagannathpur OC clusters, catering to a range of industrial consumers.

The largest quantity on offer is 54,000 t from the Jagannathpur OC-G11 cluster, including 50,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t via the Bhatgaon Wharf Wall Siding rail route.

Meanwhile, the Jampali OC-G12 cluster is offering 50,000 t through road mode. The rail-linked supplies will be sourced from a combination of Jagannathpur OC, Ketki UG, and Gayatri UG mines.
