India: Punjab's cotton arrivals fall sharply y-o-y; 60% sold below MSP
Punjab received only 2.3 lakh quintals of cotton this season, down sharply by 57% from 5.4 lakh quintals last year. Of this, 1.4 lakh quintals (60%) were sold below the minimum support price (MSP) of INR 8,010/quintal, with rates falling to as low as INR 3,000/quintal. CCI procured just 35,348 quintals, leaving 1.95 lakh quintals for private traders, as digital-registration issues restricted MSP buying.
