China: Steel billet rises by RMB 30/t ($4/t) on policy support, firm raw material costs

  • Firm raw material costs, healthy (~$70/t) margins, and policy support are sustaining prices despite weak demand.
  • Local prices in other regions rose RMB 20-40/t and mills in the north may curb output late in Aug-early September, with Baosteel seeking a RMB 200-300/t September hike.
