Taiwan: Ferrous Scrap Imports Up 43% Y-o-Y in Jul’17

As per recent customs data maintained with SteelMint, Taiwan one of the prime scrap importer has witnessed rise by 43% Y-o-Y in its ferrous scrap imports. The country has imported 0.30 MnT ferrous scrap in Jul’17 against that of 0.21 MnT imports in July last year.
Taiwan has registered a marginal rise in its scrap imports by 4% M-o-M in Jul’17 as the imports were 0.29 MnT in Jun’17.
During first seven month’s period of CY17, ferrous scrap imports to Taiwan summed up to 1.69 MnT which has shown marginal fall by 3% Y-o-Y against the 1.75 MnT imports during the same period of CY16.
So far in CY17, the highest monthly scrap imports to Taiwan have been noticed twice with 0.30 MnT ferrous scrap imports in both May and Jul’17.
United States remained the top ferrous scrap supplier to Taiwan -
United States exported highest 0.10 MnT ferrous scrap to Taiwan in Jul’17 followed by Japan which has supplied 0.08 MnT in Jul’17 doubled the volumes M-o-M and Y-o-Y, against 0.04 MnT ferrous scrap exports both in Jun’17 as well as Jul’16.
China exported 0.06 MnT ferrous scrap to Taiwan again in Jul’17 which has raised six folds Y-o-Y against 0.01 MnT exports in Jul’16 while remained unchanged M-o-M against exports in Jun’17.
Other major scrap exporters to Taiwan were Australia, Dominican Republic, Hong Kong Philippines and South Korea each with 0.01MnT exports in Jul’17.
During first seven months in CY17, United States exported highest 0.74 MnT ferrous scrap to Taiwan followed by Japan (0.30 MnT), China (0.15 MnT) and Australia (0.09). China hiked ferrous scrap by more than seven folds while Japan almost halved it against same time frame of last year.
Imported ferrous scrap prices to Taiwan remained stable in Jun’17 - Imported scrap offers to Taiwan remained stable with the monthly average at USD 248/MT, CNF Taiwan in Jun’17.while offers assessed elevating with monthly averaged at USD 262/MT, CNF Taiwan in Jul’17.
