Nepal’s Billet Imports from India Gain 4% in October

Nepal’s Billet imports from India have slightly increased in Oct'18 on falling Indian domestic & export prices during the period. It seems country's import from India may gain further momentum as the re-rollers are expected to raise rolling utilization amid peak season for construction activities.
As per custom data maintained with SteelMint, Nepal has imported about 103,700 MT Billets in Oct'18, surge by 3.7% as compared to 99,986 MT in Sep'18. Amid subdued demand due to festive season, the imports have slightly gain in Nepal. Also, it surge by 8% during Jan-Oct'18 and stood at 989,970 MT as against 916,221 MT in Jan-Oct'17.
As per assessment, the Indian billet prices dipped by INR 2,000-3,000/MT, equivalent to USD 28-41/MT during Sep-mid to Oct-mid of 2018, this has influenced Nepalese re-rollers for active participation.
-- Further due to slump in prices, sponge iron imports being rise in Nepal and recorded at 7,140 MT in Oct'18 as against 6,316 MT in Sep'18, climb by 13%.
-- Wire rod imports increase sharply by 128% M-o-M in Oct'18 and stood at 30,443 MT as against 13,339 MT in Sep'18. The total imports during Jan-Oct'18 of Indian origin Wire rod in Nepal reported at 213,777 MT, which was about 197,891 MT in the period of Jan-Oct'17, moved up by 8%.
-- The country's total Flat Steel imports from India recorded at 56,944 MT in Oct'18, surge by 47.8% M-o-M compared to 38,521 MT in Sep'18. The total Flat products import during Jan-Oct'18 stood at 587,574 MT as against 423,127 MT in Jan-Oct'17, incline by 38.8%.
Note: The above mentioned data for Sep'18 is 15th Aug to 14th Sep & for Oct'18 from 15th Sep to 14th Oct.
