Jindal Steel commissions India's second-largest blast furnace at Angul, Odisha

  • Hot metal capacity at Angul rises from 4 to 9 mnt/year

  • Angul becomes India's largest single-location steel plant

Jindal Steel has achieved a landmark by commissioning one of the India's largest blast furnaces (BF) at its integrated steel plant in Angul, Odisha. With the inauguration of the Bhagavati Subhadrika BF-II, hot metal capacity at the site has jumped from 4 million tonnes per annum (mnt/year) to 9 mnt/year. The largest BF was commissioned by Tata Steel in Kalinganagar, Odisha in 2024 with an effective volume of 5,870 m3.

Led by Chairman Naveen Jindal, the ceremonial blow-in marks Angul's emergence as India's largest single-location steel facility and a vital part of the company's future roadmap.

Scale, technology, sustainability

The newly commissioned furnace has a useful volume of 5,499 m3, placing it among the world's largest and most technologically advanced. It features cutting-edge automation, robust safety systems, and environmentally conscious design, reflecting the company's drive to unite tradition with innovation.

This is a proud moment not just for Jindal Steel, but for India, said Jindal. It strengthens our global competitiveness and reinforces our commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Angul: Hub of Future Growth

The Angul facility is now set to become the nucleus of Jindal Steel's long-term growth. Upcoming projects include a dedicated port at Paradeep, slurry pipeline, coal pipe conveyor, Shreebhoomi Power Plant, and new coke oven facilities, all aimed at enhancing operational efficiency.

Outlook

With a clear strategy and robust infrastructure in place, the company is well-positioned to scale up to 12 mnt/year and become a key player in the global steel landscape, while boosting India's self-reliance in core manufacturing sectors.
