- West Bengal facility adds 275,000 tpa colour-coated steel capacity
- Total production capacity rises to 60,000 t/month under expansion plan
Jindal (India) Ltd has commissioned a new high-speed continuous colour coating line (CCL) at its Ranihati manufacturing facility in Howrah, West Bengal, marking the completion of its 1,500-crore expansion programme in the state.
Established in 1952 and part of the BC Jindal Group, Jindal (India) is among India's leading downstream steel manufacturers, with a product portfolio spanning coated flat steel, pipes and aluminium foil.
The newly commissioned line has an annual production capacity of 275,000 tonnes and follows the commissioning of the company's galvanising line, cold rolling mill and pickling facility in February 2026. Together, these investments are aimed at strengthening the company's value-added coated steel manufacturing capabilities.
With the latest addition, Jindal (India)'s overall production capacity is expected to increase to around 60,000 tonnes per month. The company expects this capacity expansion to support a sharp rise in revenue during FY27 as utilisation levels improve.
The new CCL is equipped with continuous processing technology capable of producing a wide range of colour-coated steel products across multiple thicknesses and widths. The facility includes advanced cleaning, chemical coating, curing, inspection and laminating sections and is designed to manufacture coated products using polyester, SMP, PVDF, PVC, polyurethane and other specialised paint systems.
According to the company, the investment is intended to strengthen its position in India's value-added coated flat steel segment while addressing growing demand from infrastructure, construction and industrial applications.
Jindal (India), a part of the BC Jindal Group, currently derives nearly 70% of its production from coated flat steel products and markets them under brands including Jindal Sabrang and Jindal NeuColor+. The company has a strong presence in eastern India while supplying coated steel products across domestic markets.
Outlook
The commissioning adds to the ongoing expansion in India's coated flat steel industry, where several producers have announced investments in galvanising and colour-coating facilities over the past year. While these additions are expected to enhance domestic availability of value-added steel products and reduce reliance on imports in certain segments, they may also keep pricing competitive unless demand from infrastructure, roofing, pre-engineered buildings (PEBs), and manufacturing sectors strengthens in line with the new capacities.
