The offering is dominated by the Baroud Cluster, which contributes 204,000 t of G14-sized ROM (-100 mm) coal. Additional quantities are being offered through the Katkona 1&2, Amlai, Haldibari and Kurja clusters, providing grades ranging from G3 to G8 through a combination of road and rail logistics.
ECL to auction 0.85 mnt of steam and ROM coal on 16 Jun'26
ECL is scheduled to conduct an e-auction of around 854,150 t of coal on 16 June 2026 under the updated CIL e-auction scheme. The auction comprises a mix of steam and ROM coal from both underground and opencast mines, with supplies available through road and rail modes.
Rajmahal, Hura C account for over 90% of ECL volumes
The ECL auction is heavily concentrated in two major opencast mines -- Rajmahal OC and Hura C OC -- which together account for around 782,700 t, representing more than 90% of the total offering.
The largest single lot comprises 499,000 t of G13 ROM (-50 mm) coal from Rajmahal OC. The mine has also offered 90,700 t of G11 steam coal (-250 mm).
Meanwhile, Hura C OC has placed 93,400 t of G11 steam coal (-100 mm) and 99,600 t of G12 ROM (-50 mm) coal in the auction basket.
Underground mines offer premium-grade coal
Alongside the large opencast offerings, ECL has included premium-grade coal from several underground operations.
Central Kajora UG and Porascole (E) UG have each offered 3,000 t of G3 steam coal, while mines such as Pandaveswar UG, Chora pits, Bansra UG, Ningha UG and Dhemomain Incline UG have offered G4-grade material.
The auction also includes G5 coal from the Belbaid Cluster, G6 coal from the Salanpur B Cluster, and W03-W04 grade coal from mines including Hariajam UG, Khoodia UG, Shyampur B UG, Badjna UG and Nirsa OC.
Wide grade spectrum available to industrial consumers
Together, the two subsidiaries are offering coal grades ranging from G3 to G14, along with W03 and W04 grades, providing a diverse procurement basket for consumers.
While SECL's offering is primarily centred on non-coking coal from large mining complexes in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, ECL's auction features a blend of steam and ROM coal from underground and opencast operations in eastern India. Combined, the companies are set to place around 2.65 mnt of coal in the market through their upcoming mid-June e-auctions.
