India: SAIL, NMDC to offer over 4,000 t of crude coal tar in early Jun'26
...
- Robust downstream demand seen in previous auctions
- Firm market fundamentals, tight supply to support prices
India's crude coal tar market is set to witness fresh supply availability in early June 2026, with SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant and NMDC Steel Nagarnar collectively scheduled to auction around 4,200 tonnes (t) of material.
SAIL Bhilai will auction 2,709 t of crude coal tar on 4 June 2026. The offering follows a successful auction on 25 May 2026, where the entire 1,995 t were sold, with average transaction prices at around INR 54,000-55,000/t. The complete allocation and firm realisations indicate sustained demand from downstream coal tar distillation and chemical manufacturers, supported by healthy consumption and limited spot availability.
Likewise, NMDC Steel Nagarnar is scheduled to auction 1,500 t on 5 June 2026. In its previous auction held on 26 May 2026, the entire offered quantity was sold at average prices of approximately INR 56,000-58,000/t. Strong participation and full material absorption reflected robust buying interest, driven by steady downstream requirements and firm sentiment in the coal chemicals market.
The upcoming auctions are expected to attract active bidding, supported by consistent demand fundamentals, satisfactory offtake in recent tenders, and expectations of stable-to-firm crude coal tar prices in the near term.
