India: Pearl Group sets up 60,000 t/year aluminium plant in Gujarat

Haryana-based aluminium alloy manufacturer Pearl Alloys, major aluminium alloy producer in India. With its inception in 1982 as Pearl Engineering Company, it diversified its business into aluminium alloy manufacturing in 2001 by putting up a production facility in Bahadurgarh, Haryana.

Pearl Group comprises three companies with five production facilities in Goa, Pune, Gujarat, Delhi and Haryana. It now has production capacity of 110,000 tonnes (t) per annum.

Plant location
While the Bahadurgarh facility specialises in both aluminium and zinc alloys, the Pune facility is available for molten aluminium and the Vasana (Gujarat) facility is available for aluminium alloys.

New production facility: The company has started a new production facility in Vasana with total production capacity of around 60,000 t per annum.

Vision: The company’s long-term vision is to place recycled aluminium at the forefront of Indian manufacturing. It is looking to develop special alloys and material solutions for applications like automotive, railways, construction, electrical and home appliances and agriculture. The vision is to contribute to building a sustainable future by reducing the use of primary and heavy metals thus resulting in energy savings and optimal utilisation of resources.

Versatile use of aluminium: Aluminium is infinitely recyclable, 1/4th the weight of steel, corrosion resistant, extremely malleable and has the same strength and durability as steel. This makes it the metal of choice for replacing steel in the light-weighting of products.

The company has 20 years of working experience in the automotive industry and have seen hundreds of mild steel and iron components getting replaced by aluminium. The company believes that the car/bike companies will achieve extraordinary fuel efficiencies by adopting aluminium.

Short term demand outlook of global export market

India is a prominent supplier catering to demand from China and Japan. Now, with the ease of doing business, digitalisation and several other enabling government policies, cost-effectiveness of producers has increased. In the past two years, exports of recycled aluminium from India have increased drastically and it seems this will continue in the coming years, SteelMint learnt during an exclusive interview with Manish Kandwal of Pearl Alloys.
