Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) plans to expand the production capacity of the Kodingamali bauxite mine in Odisha to 6 million tonnes per annum (mnt/year) from the current 3.6 mnt/year, driven by rising industrial demand and the states focus on strengthening its mineral-based economy.
Located across the Koraput and Rayagada districts, the mine has been operational for the past eight years and supplies bauxite to several industries within Odisha. The proposed expansion is also expected to support regional development through improved infrastructure, employment generation, and increased economic activity in nearby areas.
More than 10,000 residents from surrounding villages have reportedly submitted formal support for the expansion, highlighting the projects contribution to local livelihoods and development initiatives.
