India: NMDC Iron Ore Production Marks Record High in FY'18

In FY'18, NMDC's iron ore production stood at 35.5 MnT, up by 4.4% Y-o-Y and sales grew by 1.3% Y-o-Y to 36.07 MnT respectively.

NMDC - India's largest iron ore miner recorded production at 35.5 MnT in FY'18, up 4% against 34.03 MnT in FY'17. The company's production is in line with the laid target announced earlier this year.

The total production from Chhattisgarh mines for FY'18 (Apr'17- Mar'18) recorded at 23.5 MnT, up 7% against 22.03 MnT in FY'17. The production from Karnataka mines for FY'18 stood at 12 MnT in line with production in FY'17.

In Mar'18, NMDC witnessed sharp increase in iron ore production by 21% to 4.18 MnT as compared to 3.45 MnT in Feb'18. On yearly basis, production in Mar'18 depicted a rise of 13% as against 3.7 MnT in Mar'17.

Out of the total iron ore production of 4.18 MnT in Mar'18, 3.21 MnT (77% of total production) was contributed by NMDC Bailadila mines in Chhattisgarh, up 31% M-o-M compared to 2.45 MnT in Feb'18. The remaining 0.97 MnT iron ore was produced from NMDC's Karnataka mines, down marginally compared to 1 MnT in Feb'18.

NMDC iron ore sales in FY'18 increase marginally

In FY18, NMDC's iron ore sales have been recorded at 36.07 MnT, marginally up by 1.3% as compared to sales in FY'17 at 35.62 MnT.

The total sales from Chhattisgarh mines in FY'18 recorded at 23.16 MnT,in line with FY'17 sales at 23 MnT. The sales from Karnataka mines stood at 12.91 MnT in FY'18, as compared to 12.62 MnT in last fiscal.

NMDC witnessed rise in sales of iron ore in Mar'18 to 4.15 MnT, up 37% M-o-M as compared to 3.03 MnT in Feb'18. On yearly basis, iron ore sales witnessed surge of 26% against Mar'17 sales at 3.29 MnT.

In Mar'18, iron ore sales from Chhattisgarh mines recorded at 2.72 MnT, up 32% M-o-M as against 2.06 MnT in Feb'18. Sales from Karnataka stood at 1.43 MnT in Mar'18, increase of 47% compared to 0.97 MnT in Feb'18.

NMDC expansion plans 

NMDC plans to increase its iron ore production to 43-45 MnT in FY19 and further increasing to 67 MnT by 2022.

In a major development, NMDC has got approval to enhance its iron ore production limit to 14 MnT by CEC (Central Empowered Committee) from previously allotted 9.45 MnT in Karnataka.

Also its 3 MnT steel plant at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh is expected to come up soon.
