JSW Steel Limited secured the Pissurlem Mineral Block No. XV in the Goa iron ore auction held on 7 May'26, emerging as the top bidder with a premium of 118.10%. Located in Pissurlem village of Sattari Taluka in North Goa, it covers a total area of around 168.02 hectares, of which nearly 160.52 hectares are mineralised. The block consists of two former mining lease areas Deulem Pissurlem Iron Ore Mine and Gaval Sonshi Iron Ore Mine making it a sizeable iron ore-bearing region in Goas mining belt.

The block hosts significant iron resources estimated at around 96.03 mnt with an average iron content of approximately Fe 54.8%. Out of the total resources, lumps account for nearly 28.81 mnt, while fines contribute around 67.22 mnt, indicating higher fines availability in the deposit. In addition, the block contains about 4.8 mnt of dump material, of which nearly 1.56 mnt is considered recoverable with Fe grades ranging between 45-51%.

From a logistics perspective, the block has good connectivity. The nearest railway station, Tivim, is located around 30 km away, while State Highway SH-20 lies approximately 2 km from the lease area.

Goa auction overview

Goa has successfully concluded auctions for five iron ore mine blocks so far in 2026, reflecting strong industry participation and aggressive bidding trends. The auctions, held across April-May, covered key mineral blocks including Cudnem, Pissurlem, and Adwalpale-Moitem, with premiums ranging between 115.25% and 151.05%. Among the awarded blocks, Pissurlem Mineral Block No. XV emerged as the largest with total geographical resources of 100.83 mnt.
