Coal India Limited (CIL) reported a marginal decline in coal production and offtake during April 2025-February 2026, as weaker output from some subsidiaries offset gains at select operations, according to provisional data released by the company.
CIL's coal production stood at 683.7 million tonnes (mnt) during April-February of FY'26, down 2% y-o-y compared with 695.3 mnt in the corresponding period last year. Production in February 2026 increased 0.7% y-o-y to 74.7 mnt from 74.1 mnt a year earlier.
Among subsidiaries, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) delivered the strongest performance, producing 156.8 mnt during the eleven-month period, registering 7% growth over last year. Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) reported largely flat output at 128.8 mnt. Meanwhile, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) recorded a 2.6% y-o-y decline in production to 197.8 mnt, though it remained the largest contributor to CILs overall output.
On the offtake front, CIL's coal dispatches declined 3% y-o-y to 674.6 mnt during April-February, compared with 694.1 mnt in the year-ago period. February 2026 offtake fell 1.5% to 62 mnt, reflecting softer dispatches across most subsidiaries.
SECL was the only major arm to report cumulative growth in offtake, with dispatches rising 4.3% y-o-y to 161.9 mnt. In contrast, dispatches declined at Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) by 12.4%, Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) by 12.1%, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) by 12.5%, and MCL by 1.1%, while NCL's dispatches remained broadly flat.
