Emirates Global Aluminium to acquire 80% stake in Italy-based Eco Green, strengthening European recycling footprint

  • EGA recycling capacity to cross 400,000 t/year globally

  • Europe recycled aluminium demand at 4.9 mnt in 2025

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the largest industrial company in the UAE outside oil and gas and the world's biggest producer of premium aluminium, has announced its intention to acquire an 80% stake in Italy-based aluminium recycling company Eco Green, subject to regulatory approvals. The acquisition marks another step in EGA's strategy to expand its global recycling footprint, particularly across Europe.

Eco Green's operations, expansion plans

Eco Green specialises in aluminium scrap collection, sorting and casting, and dross processing, distributing more than 70,000 tonnes (t) per year. Its Villafranca di Verona facility handles approximately 23,000 t per year of aluminium scrap, part of which feeds its nearby Nogara di Verona plant that produces over 20,000 t per year of secondary sows. The company is also advancing an expansion at the Nogara facility that will add 15,000 t per year of recycled aluminium capacity, expected to be completed early in H2CY'26.

Eco Green serves more than 60 customers across Europe and maintains a strong scrap sourcing network of over 350 suppliers. Founded by the Scappini family in 1993, the company employs 70 people and will continue to operate under its existing management team following completion of the transaction.

Acquisition to strengthen EGA's recycling platform

EGA operates the UAE's largest aluminium recycling plant at Al Taweelah in Abu Dhabi and has already acquired recycling assets in Germany and the United States. Following completion of the Eco Green acquisition, EGA's recycling capacity is expected to exceed 400,000 t per year across the UAE, Europe and the US, with an additional 200,000 t under development. EGA markets its recycled aluminium globally under the RevivAL brand.

Europe, excluding Russia, is the world's third-largest recycled aluminium market after the United States and China. Recycled aluminium currently meets around 40% of Europe's aluminium demand, with the share estimated at 4.9 million tonnes (mnt) in 2025 and projected to reach around 7.2 mnt by 2033, according to CRU. Global demand for recycled aluminium is expected to double by 2040, supported by its advantage of requiring about 95% less energy than primary aluminium production.
