Bangladesh: Non-coking coal imports decline 40% y-o-y in Mar'26 amid weak power sector demand

Bangladesh's non-coking coal imports declined marginally by 0.94% m-o-m to 1.05 mnt in Mar'26 from 1.06 mnt in Feb'26, reflecting stable but cautious buying amid adequate inventories. However, imports fell sharply by 40% y-o-y from 1.75 mnt due to reduced power generation demand. Despite this, Q1CY'26 imports rose 6% y-o-y to 4.73 mnt, supported by earlier procurement.
