Baltic dry index jumps over 7% on strong Capesize demand, tighter tonnage supply
The Baltic Dry Index surged 7.3% (137 points) d-o-d to 2095 points on 12 Feb'26 due to firm demand for dry bulk shipping, especially Capesize vessels, tightening available tonnage and lifting freight rates for bulk commodities like iron ore and coal.
- Capesize: BCI gained by 11.8% (327 points) to 3,241.
- Panamax: BPI rose by 1.8% (31 points) to 1,766.
- Supramax: BSI up by 2.2% (25 points) to 1,165.
