Vietnam Crude steel production grew 87% in H1 2017 �" WSA

Vietnam’s crude steel production showed a tremendous increase of 87%,in comparison of first half of CY 2016 and CY 2017 crude steel production. 2.36 MnT was produced in Jan-June 2016 and 4.42 MnT was produced in the same period of 2017.

Country’s crude steel production showed an increase of 58% in the span of six month from Jan-June 2017 as compared to the second half (July-Dec) of 2016,  2.80 MnT of crude steel was produced from July-Dec 2016, which increase to 4.42 MnT in Jan-June 2017.

Vietnam Billet import decreased as imports from China decreased. China diverted the export quantity to feed its local demand. This made the country to increase production of crude steel. Local demand in Vietnam is backed by projects for urbanization and infrastructural growth.

Vietnam is the largest steel producer in the ASEAN region and the growing pace of steel making in the country has astounded everyone in the steel sector.

Country’s growth for the past few years has been at a rate of 21.64%, and according to steelmint analysis “it is expected to be around 15-18% for the next decade to come.”  During the period 2013 -2016 not only the steel production grew at a phenomenal rate the steel consumption also grew at 25.7%.

Total steel output of steel for 2016 was hovering at 17.5 million tons, which is expected to be at 19.6 million tons in 2017.
