US: Copper exports fall nearly 7% m-o-m in September

US Customs has recently released non-ferrous (copper) recyclable commodity export and import figures for September 2022. Exports decreased by 6.5% over the previous month, while imports rose by 13% m-o-m.
In September, the US's copper exports stood at 144,832 t including ores, scrap, semi-finished, finished long and finished flat products, down 6.5% m-o-m from 154,941 t in August.
On the other hand, imports (including, scrap, semi-finished, finished long and finished flat products) were recorded at 107,866 t, up 13% m-o-m as against 95,249 t in August.
Break-up of exports
Copper scrap exports were the highest at 74,745 t, down 7.31% m-o-m, followed by ore at 36,845 t (up 7.66%), and finished long at 16,870 t, down 12.61% on the month.
Break-up of imports
Semi-finished copper import volumes were the highest at 52,308 t, up 37.99% m-o-m, followed by finished flat at 25,996 t (down 8.73%), and finished long at 18,997 t, up 3.73% on the month.
Export destinations- port wise
In September, Nogales remained the most-preferred export destination for the US, with total shipments at 22,727 t, up 2.04%. Imports by Los angeles stood at 16,780 t, down 14.54%, while Detroit sourced 14,727 t.
Shipments to New York were recorded at 14,667 t.
Import sources
The highest volumes were imported from Tampa at 22,712 t, a hike of 66% m-o-m. From Ogdensburg 15,843 t was imported in September, almost stable m-o-m, followed by New York at 11,232 t, up 62% m-o-m.
