U.S. Imports of Pig iron Increased 33% in 2017

United States, the world's largest importer for Pig iron reported incline in imports by 32.55% Y-o-Y in 2017 after continuous fall since 2014, the fresh released data by US customs showed.
The nation has imported about 5.13 MnT Pig iron in the calendar year 2017 against 3.87 MnT in 2016.
Inline, in the month of Dec’17, imports stood at 0.31 MnT against 0.24 MnT in Dec’16, surge by 29.16% Y-o-Y.
During the period of 2017, the largest exporter of Pig iron to United States was Russia, whose export to the nation was recorded at 2.78 MnT against 2.22 MnT in 2016, surge by around 25.22% Y-o-Y. It may also be mentioned that Russia has been the largest exporter since CY14, while in CY13 Brazil topped the list.
While in the year of 2017, Russia has contributed around 54.31% of Pig iron exports to United States, followed by major exporters like " Ukraine 1.14 MnT (22.30%), Brazil 0.92 MnT (17.96%), South Africa 0.13 MnT (2.62%) & India 0.07 MnT (1.40%).
-- The crude steel production of United States was around 81.640 MnT in 2017 which increased by 4.03% against 78.475 MnT in 2016. Prior to this it was at 78.845 MnT in CY15, according to the World Steel Association.
-- Presently, the export offers of basic grade Pig Iron are assessed at USD 350/MT FoB Black Sea, USD 370-375/MT FoB Brazil & USD 365-375/MT FoB India.
