Taiwan - Flat Steel Exports Rise 5% in Jul’18

As per latest custom data,Taiwan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils/Plates),7209(CR coils),7225(Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) witnessed growth of 5.4% to 0.78 MnT in Jul’18 which was 0.74 MnT in Jun’18.
Similarly on yearly basis, nation’s flat steel exports surged by 13% in Jul’18 as compared to 0.69 MnT in Jul’17.
During first seven months (Jan-Jul’18) nation’s flat steel imports stood at 5.30 MnT higher by 8% against 4.87 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.
Impact of USA tariffs on Taiwan steel exports-Taiwan was the ninth-largest source of steel imports to the US last year.In response to the tariffs, the government has encouraged local manufacturers to diversify their export markets beyond the US.An increase in steel shipments to several European and Southeast Asian countries in the three months helped offset declining sales of affected steel products to the US.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs said the government would continue talks with the US regarding exemption for Taiwanese steel and aluminum exports from higher tariffs, but added that local manufacturers need to pay close attention to import restrictions on such products imposed by the EU and Canada.

Country-Wise Taiwan Flat Steel Exports in Jul’17- Taiwan majorly exports flat steel to Vietnam. In Jul’18 nation has exported 0.10 MnT to Vietnam less by 17% as compared to 0.12 MnT in previous month.Thus Vietnam accounts for 15% of share from Taiwan flat steel exports from Jan-Jul’18.
Second major importer was China which stood at 0.10 MnT in Jul’18 as compared to 0.09 MnT in Jun’18.
Meanwhile Japan stood at 0.09 MnT,fell by 13% in Jul'18 against 0.08 MnT in previous month.
Other major importers were USA at 0.03 MnT ,followed by Spain at 0.04 MnT and Belguim at 0.04 MnT in Jul’18.
