South Africa: Chrome Ore Exports Marginally Down in Mar’18

According to South African customs, the country has witnessed a marginal decrease of 1% M-o-M in its Chrome Ore exports in Mar’18.

South Africa exported 1.17 MnT in Mar’18 against 1.35 MnT in Feb’18. Moreover, on yearly basis, South African Chrome Ore exports recorded a substantial increase of 22% as it was 1.3 MnT in Mar’17.

The demand for Chrome Ore has been flat due to weak Ferro Chrome market in China. The low realization of stainless steel in the region has prompted the buyers to keep their inventory limited.

China was the largest importer of South African Chrome Ore witnessing a marginal decrease of 2% M-o-M in Mar’18 followed by Mozambique, and Indonesia among others.
